A song by Post Malone and why a celebration?

Congratulations
by Post Malone ft. Quavo
2017

For those who know Post Malone, you may know the Congratulations song. This song was really popular back in that year. What in our head may think this song is about congratulating or celebrating an achievement. What we’ve done and sacrificed in the past until we achieved our goals.

Post Malone

I used to listen to this song repeatedly in 2018. Somehow, this song motivated me to finish my thesis in university. I listened to this song a hundred times when I was writing on it. Until I graduated from my university and congratulated myself with this song.

My momma called, seen you on TV, son
Said shit done changed ever since we was on

My momma called, seen you on TV” at the first line, intriguing my mind like “Oh this dude’s mom is proud of him”. Someone must be proud of us and for me I want to make them proud too. It can be literally our mom, family or our homie. Like they saw you stand at a point and said “shit done changed” dude. The “shit” turned into a better version or even gold.

I dreamed it all ever since I was young
They said I wouldn’t be nothing
Now they always say congratulations

“They said I wouldn’t be nothing”. It’s always funny for me because somehow I think it’s true. Why are there always some people who say things like that? Is our dream too big? Do they know our capacity? Regardless if they really mean it or not. But keep moving forward and when we make it, make “they always say congratulations”.

Worked so hard, forgot how to vacation
They ain’t never had the dedication
People hatin’, say we changed and look, we made it
Yeah, we made it

“Worked so hard, forgot how to vacation”. What we’ve done and sacrificed until we achieved our goals. We put our passion and dedication into it. Our patient when we go through every step. We sacrifice our time. Maybe the time for our family or loved ones, the time for our sleep, and the time for our hobbies or vacation like the lyrics says.

From my side, working really hard is a good spirit but at this time I realized it’s not always that good. I know we want to achieve our goal but we must know the side effects when we sacrifice a thing. Is it worth enough if we compare with our goal? It can be a long explanation for this. You will know when you go through it. It also depends on what time, condition, or experience you’ve passed.

I was patient, yeah, oh
I was patient, aye, oh
Now I can scream that we made it
Now everyone, everywhere I go, they say ‘gratulations
Young nigga, young nigga, graduation

Patient can be the key when something is going hard. When we start thinking that we can’t go through it. We know sometimes that being patient is always as hard as reaching the goal, right? But after we made it, we could scream, say loudly that we made it. Let the world know and say congratulations to us.

The rest of the lyrics are history.

Why a celebration?

Celebration

We may like to celebrate our achievement. The difference between us is the goal. What is our goal? What is our achievement? What I think of as an achievement, can be not for you. Every step or progress passed when reaching the goal, can be called an achievement for some people.

But, what I want to say is whatever achievement means for you, don’t care how small or big it is, it’s just one step closer or already reached the goal, sometimes we should celebrate it. We should congratulate ourselves. It’s just to remind ourselves, how far we have become.

Many people are saying the same way as I am saying. I write this also as a reminder for me.

A celebration can renew our energy and motivate us to move to the next step or another goal. Like birthday celebrations, maybe we always make the same wishes. We hope to be better in the future. Even though the wishes are always the same, we renew the energy and the spirit of the wishes. So we can keep the hope and goal alive in our mind.

Let’s celebrate and congratulations!
